Plan your move before summer

The weather in the summer months is one of the reasons why summer moving is so popular. However, there are some drawbacks if you don’t plan your move accordingly. Effective planning allows you to shop moving quotes from home moving services, gives you time to recover or plan against unexpected events, if you have kids – planning early allows your kids to meet some friends in the neighborhood before the start of the school season.

Have a Yard Sale

One of the things you will want to make part of your summer move is to schedule back-to-back weekends for yard/garage sales. If you have items that you don’t want to take with you to your new home, a yard sale is a perfect opportunity to sell off some of your stuff. The reasons I mention that it’s a good idea to schedule a yard sale on back-to-back weekends are:

  1. Rain – since you are planning your move for weeks to months in advance, you’ll know about as much about the Maryland weatherman. Having yard sales on back-to-back weekends decrease the chances that your garage sale will get rained out.
  2. Better for negotiations – you may have some items that hold some sentimental value that you may not be ready to sell. You will absolutely encounter buyers who will try their best to take your stuff with a discount. Giving yourself more time to sell items gives you the opportunity to hold out for a better offer for some of your favorite belongings.
  3. Vacation: back-to-back yard sales allow you to catch those neighbors who were out of town during the first sale.

Home Moving Service Availability

If you plan to hire a local moving company, rent a moving truck on your own, or have friends and family help you move, planning your summer move will give you the time you need to get the help you need. There are plenty of next-day or same day movers who service the Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia areas, but those types of home moving services tend to come with a cost.

Plan your summer move early and save money and time.
