Do Not Procrastinate
Procrastinating will most often lead to stress and disorganization. By waiting until the last minute to plan your move, you are also at risk of costing yourself more money. If you give your local moving company enough notice, they will likely work with you on moving costs. However, deciding to hire a moving company last-minute will likely cost you more money.
Contact your local moving company early
Call your local moving company at least a month in advance to:
- Reserve a moving truck
- Request packing services
- Purchase moving boxes and other moving supplies
Packing for your local move
It’s often hard to pack before a move because you often pack away needed items too early. Within the two weeks leading up to your move, be sure to:
- Pack non-seasonal clothing first (coats & jackets, shorts, sweatshirts, etc.)
- Clean and create a space such as a closet or space in the basement for packed and ready to go items
- Label all of your boxes to include the new destination room on the top and sides of each box. This will help your local movers during your move.
